Aggregates Data

Marine Aggregates Data Available on the Marine Date Exchange

In 2015, data ( access it here) previously available on the Marine GIS was transferred to the Marine Data Exchange. A static version of this website is still available for archive reference.

The data available mainly relates to marine aggregates including the Marine Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund (MALSF), a £25m programme of marine research undertaken from 2004-2011.  MALSF research was funded through a Government imposed levy on all primary aggregate production (including marine aggregates) to reflect the environmental cost of winning these materials. A proportion of the revenue generated was used to provide a source of funding for research aimed at minimising the effects of aggregate production. This funding, delivered through Defra, was known as the Aggregate Levy Sustainability Fund (ALSF).  The fund had both marine and terrestrial components.  The main aim of the Marine ALSF programme was to promote environmentally friendly aggregate extraction in the marine environment in England or in English waters.

An overview of the Marine ALSF data available is shown below.
