The Crown Estate is a diverse property business valued at more
than £8 billion. Our property portfolio includes office, retail and
industrial premises, housing, farmland, forestry and minerals,
parkland, and around half the foreshore and almost all the seabed
around the UK. The property we manage is owned by the Crown but is
not the private property of the monarch, and our net surplus
(profit) goes to the Treasury for the benefit of the nation.

Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment Northern
DETI plays a crucial role in formulating and delivering economic
development policy in terms of Enterprise, Social Economy,
Innovation, Energy, Telecoms, and Tourism in Northern Ireland. In
addition, the Department has responsibility for ensuring a modern
regulatory framework to support business and protect consumers.
Environmental Data and Information Network (MEDIN)
MEDIN provides secure long-term management of marine data sets
through a network of Data Archive Centres (DACs), improved access
to authoritative marine data held within this network, an agreed
set of common standards for metadata, data format and content
maintained and supported by partners along with data guidelines,
contractual clauses and software tools to support standards and
best practice data management.
The MMO has a wide range of responsibilities, including the
implementation of a new marine planning system designed to
integrate the social requirements, economic potential and
environmental imperatives of our seas, running a new marine
licensing regime that is easier for everyone to use with clearer,
simpler and quicker licensing decisions, working with Natural
England and the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) to
manage a network of marine protected areas (marine conservation
zones and European marine sites) designed to preserve vulnerable
habitats and species in UK marine waters.
Marine Scotland is the directorate of Scottish Government
responsible for marine and fisheries issues in Scotland including
Marine Planning. Its purpose is to manage Scotland's seas for
prosperity and environmental sustainability.
RenewableUK is the UK's leading not for profit renewable energy
Tidal Knowledge Network
This is a website to support industry collaboration in the
emerging wave and tidal industry. The coverage of the Knowledge
Network is broad, and includes such topics as environmental impacts
and consents, grid connection and health and safety. A subset of
data relevant to the wave and tidal industry which are available on
the Marine Data Exchange are also available on the Wave and Tidal
Knowledge Network. References and data have been contributed by
organisations based in the UK and overseas. The system is open
access and much of the information is available to download
immediately, free of charge. In addition, the website gives links
to external sources of information available on a commercial
The Welsh Government is responsible for Marine Planning in Wales
and also plays a role in the consenting of renewable energy
projects in Welsh waters.
