Displacement in the non-breeding season
Project Overview

DisNBS: Effects of displacement from offshore renewable developments in the non-breeding season
Status: Active
Start Date: September 2023
Lead Organisation: Carbon Trust under the Offshore Renewables Joint Industry Programme (ORJIP)
Decreasing uncertainty of impacts of seabird displacement is an important step to reducing consenting risk and timeframes. The project therefore seeks to improve the estimates of displacement by offshore renewable developments on seabirds outside of the breeding season.
The project will build a model that predicts the time and energy used by seabirds during the non-breeding season, and translates these into projections of adult annual survival and productivity. A thorough data collection and review will be conducted to inform model development. For species with low data availability and unsuited to a modelling approach, the project will propose an alternative approach to evaluating the extent and effects of displacement in the non-breeding season.
