Momchil Momchilov
Ascent, Senior Full-Stack Engineer
Personal Profile
Nothing screams Momo more than a glass of homemade wine, 70s through 80s rock embellishing the atmosphere, and a good video game in the surrounds of neon lights.
Favourite hobbies: Game theory crafting, playing the guitar, hikes!
Favourite marine creature: Definitely a kind of octopus, probably the Blanket octopus.
Party trick: I can do some awesome origami and I have also turned out to be quite the energetic (and chaotic) dancer.
2 truths & a lie:
- I love cinema as an art medium and believe excess suits it well.
- I often succumb to my guilty pleasure of voicing unpopular opinions for the sake of sparking a conversation.
- I prefer series to films, because they capture deeper hues of the story and characters and often do a better job at worldbuilding.
Career Profile

Responsibilities:
I get to discuss and/or propose ideas and help turn those into problems to solve. Once we have the problems, I then help translate those to a different language so a computer can understand. Best part of it – building something valuable up from the drawing board.
Why did you choose this career?
Software design and engineering is an incredibly fulfilling journey. There is always something new to learn and master around the corner. The challenge involved is just the right amount to keep you excited for the next few days, every few days.
What do you love about your job?:
I love that I get to work with people that are passionate about progress, improvement and boundless exploration.
What do you find challenging about your work?:
One of the more consistent challenges for me in software engineering has always been maintaining the fine balance between implementing a solution while maintaining maximum technical and perceived quality, while also not sacrificing development time and/or complexity. We are often motivated by the search for the best solution, but it’s rarely the most efficient and effective one, all things considered.
Skills:
- Front-end and Back-end design and engineering (primarily in C# & TypeScript)
- General problem categorisation and problem solving
Career Pathway:
My passion for software engineering started to develop soon after I first laid my hands on a computer keyboard playing a video game. However, it took all the time until the end of high school for that passion to materialize into a practical daily pursuit and career choice.
I began working in the software industry as soon as I started pursuing my bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Design in Plovdiv. By the time I obtain my degree, I had already progressed enough in my career and personal development to be able to teach honorary tutorials and give lectures at my university and share my passion with younger peers.
Fast-forward a few years, obtaining more practical and philosophical experience in the realm of computer science has only boosted my passion for sharing knowledge and searching for answers in the unknown.
