PARTRAC Ltd undertook a VMADCP survey during a 13 hour complete spring tide to define the locations of high-energy current flow hotspots which could then be further investigated in the future using bottom-mounted ADCPs to determine the suitability for tidal energy conversion. Throughout the whole tide the highest-energy flows occurred in the centre of the channel and were separated from much lower-velocity flows at the edges of the channel by sharp boundaries. Flow reversal at these boundaries was noticeable during peak flow periods between high and low water.
