Summary

Ocean fronts are the interface zones between distinct water masses, often locations of enhanced or sustained biological productivity and hence linked to higher abundance and biodiversity of certain marine animals. This series describes the strength and persistence of fronts, using monthly and seasonal long-term averages based on 10 years of sea-sur...

Categories indicate the area of study or data type the series is associated with. For example, a survey carrying out grab sampling would have the category 'Benthic Ecology', while a desktop study exploring the impact of substation design on bird nesting would have the categories ' Birds, Engineering Design'

Data: Shelf-sea front satellite dataset

Data: Shelf-sea front satellite dataset

This dataset describes the strength and persistence of fronts, using monthly and seasonal long-term averages based on 10 years of sea-surface temperature data (2010-2019, 1km resolution) and 7 years of chlorophyll-a data (2016-2023, 300m resolution). The data are provided as multiple layers (e.g. months, seasons) in netCDF files for analysis in GIS software.
