The Internships
Each year, The Crown Estate hosts marine internship programmes across the UK, in collaboration with a variety of organisations within the marine renewable energy and conservation sectors. Interns carry out a range of relevant and impactful research projects, generating useful data and evidence and providing valuable insights to support marine industries. There is also the opportunity to collaborate with partner organisations, develop fieldwork skills across their internship regions, attend training courses, run community outreach events, engage with a variety of stakeholders, attend conferences and participate in occasional activities run at The Crown Estate London offices.

Marine Futures East Coast Internship:
Mona Kincaid:
I'm a travelling chef who’s left the world of small plates and open fire for the world of marine conservation – I daresay to the relief of some of our tastier fish. My main interests lie in diving and other forms of wildlife spotting, as well as environmental activism.
George Edwards
I was born in Yorkshire, grew up in Grimsby and Cleethorpes, and have a strong personal connection to the Humber and North Sea coast. I have always had a passion for the outdoors and protecting Wildlife. A few years ago, I completed my Master’s degree in Wildlife Documentary Production. Not long after completing my degree I decided that the career path I really wanted to pursue was conservation rather than media and this led me to apply to the Marine Futures Internship programme.
Marine Futures North Wales Internship:
Amy Quaeck-Evans:
Growing up on Ynys Môn, I was surrounded by natural beauty and knew I wanted to be part of protecting it for future generations. My Environmental Management and Sustainability BSc led me into a wide range of jobs within the environmental charity sector.
Siôn D'Arcy:
I grew up in Bangor, North Wales, and after a few years studying Biological Sciences at Cardiff University, I decided there was nowhere else I’d rather be than home. Following a Postgraduate Master’s in Conservation and Land Management at Bangor University, the chance to hopefully make a difference to my local area through this internship is a dream come true!
Northwest Marine Futures Internship:
Rupli Moores-Mason:
Before starting the internship, I worked as a laboratory research assistant, analysing blue carbon storage in continental shelf sediments as part of the ongoing Convex Seascape Survey. I studied Conservation Biology and Ecology, followed by a Master’s in Marine Environmental Management at the University of Exeter. Outside of work, I love being outdoors—whether that’s hiking, kayaking or rock climbing. I’m very excited to be part of the internship and to continue learning about the marine environment, offshore industries and the work being done to protect our seas!
Alice Newbould:
Prior to the internship I was working as a fisheries research assistant at Bangor University, which is where I completed my Masters in Marine Environmental Protection. I have since spent time working for UHI Shetland in their fisheries team and I am looking forward to applying my experience across a range of marine sectors during the Internship.
Marine Futures South Wales Internship:
Arwen Skinner:
Growing up in Wales, I was told stories of the ocean by my grandparents, and now I get to be a part of that story. Alongside a long history of rock pooling, I recently graduated from the University of Southampton with an MSci in Marine Biology with Oceanography, focusing in my final year on gravel beaches and how underestimated pebbles are in our coastal systems. Alongside my studies, I worked at the Winchester Science Centre (teaching kids about bubbles), worked on construction and demolition waste in Tasmania, and joined the circus.
Sophie Dunlop:
During my recent MSci in Marine Biology with Oceanography at the University of Southampton, I volunteered at aquariums and interned at Sea Trust Wales. These experiences made me increasingly enthusiastic about native wildlife, but also more engaged and motivated by the climate crisis. I am excited to be back in Pembrokeshire for this internship and to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders helping to develop marine renewable energy in Wales.
Coastal Explorer Internship:
Lydia Porritt:
I recently graduated from the University of Southampton with a BSc in Marine Biology. My previous experience includes engineering plastic-degrading enzymes as a Project Support Assistant at the Centre for Enzyme Innovation and completing a Research Aquarium Internship at the National Oceanography Centre. I also volunteered in the Seychelles tagging sicklefin lemon sharks, so tagging sharks off the Kent Coast during the internship feels like a full-circle moment.
Daniel Hampton:
I recently completed my degree in Marine Biology (Integrated Masters) at the University of Southampton with a semester abroad at James Cook University, Australia. My thesis focused on investigating cryptobenthic fish in the Coral Sea Marine Park, Australia. Having grown up in Kent, and having a particular interest in elasmobranchs, I am very excited to be co-leading Sharks of Kent as well as being able to gain more experience in the marine ecology sector.
